ProLogis takes its role as the worldwide market leader in distribution space seriously. On a global scale, everything we do as a company--how we build and maintain our facilities, how we serve our communities, and how we operate our business--matters a great deal to all our stakeholders, whether they be customers, investors, or anyone who calls this planet home.

The customer stories at the right give you a glimpse of what sustainability means to industrial real estate, and why we are committed to being the leading global provider of sustainable distribution facilities. These examples, as well as other information available in this section, demonstrate that for ProLogis, leadership in sustainability goes beyond simply “sustainable development.” We see our mission in three dimensions: environmental stewardship, social responsibility and business excellence.

These three dimensions give our sustainability initiative a "triple bottom line": benefit to the planet, to people, and to the profitability that makes our existence possible. Embracing this definition commits us to making progress on all three fronts at the same time—not one at the expense of others. Corporate Accountability

It’s one thing to claim sustainability; having a qualified third party check your claims is quite another. That’s why in April 2007, ProLogis became the first U.S. real estate company to begin issuing an annual sustainability report in accordance with standards set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a non-profit organization sponsored by the United Nations Environmental Programme. Our most recent report (published April 2009) provides detailed information about ProLogis’ economic, social and environmental performance during 2008. The report will continue to be updated annually and made available as a companion document to the company’s annual report to shareholders.
