Headquarters buildings

Committed to “walking the talk” in environmental stewardship, Prologis has applied green building design to both its corporate headquarters in San Francisco, California USA and its operational headquarters in Denver, Colorado USA. In both cases, Prologis demonstrates leadership in sustainable development long before it was mainstream for office environments.

Corporate headquarters - San Francisco

Prologis’ corporate headquarters is located in a historical industrial pier on the San Francisco waterfront. The building at Pier 1, once a bustling sugar warehouse, sat vacant for many years before its redevelopment by AMB in the late 1990s. It represents the first modern, full-scale renovation of a large San Francisco pier that catalyzed the rebirth of the entire pier waterfront.

The building’s design inserted mezzanines into an open-office environment, preserving daylight and views for occupants and promoting energy efficiency. An innovative bay-water-source radiant heating and cooling system was also installed to condition the building. Green housekeeping practices and procurement add to the building’s sustainable credentials. The restoration added more than an acre of public space to the city’s waterfront in the form of a promenade lined with benches, a first for the city’s waterfront development. San Franciscans can enjoy the dramatic city, Bay Bridge and maritime views from the converted pier.

Designed and executed before the LEED® certification process was commonplace, the renovated building was recognized by the Urban Land Institute as an important example of environmentally responsible redevelopment, and by the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on the Environment as one of their 2002 Top Ten Green Projects.

Operational headquarters - Denver

Prologis’ operational headquarters opened in February 2006. Having achieved LEED certification, the five-story, 89,000-square-foot facility has been nationally recognized for its extensive use of environmental design features:

  • A site plan that reduces storm water runoff, building heat absorption and overall ecological impact
  • Extensive use of local and regional construction materials
  • Extensive recycling of construction waste
  • Energy-efficient lighting control systems including natural light harvesting
  • High-performance glass that reduces energy consumption while allowing for a high degree of light transmittance
  • Water-efficient landscaping and irrigation systems using non-potable municipal water
  • On-site showers and locker facilities that promote biking to work
  • Charging stations for electric vehicles
  • Construction means and methods that enhance indoor air quality for employees.
