Department of Energy Program

Improving the energy performance of ProLogis buildings is one thing, but the opportunity to improve the efficiency of the industrial real estate industry overall has even more potential.

That is why ProLogis has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy on a study that aims to make vast improvements in warehouse energy efficiency. In collaboration with DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the company has committed to developing one new building with the goal of reducing energy consumption by 50% (compared to standard building code), and retrofitting one existing building with the goal of reducing energy consumption by 30% (compared to previous usage).

By understanding the technology and design changes that were necessary to achieving these goals, DOE will work to remove market barriers and speed adoption of these practices so they can be adopted on a large scale, in an economically feasible manner. This multi-year partnership began in 2008, and the study is currently underway two ProLogis facilities.
