Sustainable Development

As a leading global provider of distribution facilities, environmental stewardship is a natural place to begin with corporate responsibility. We adhere to strict design standards and build our facilities to minimize environmental impact and maximize energy efficiency.

In January 2008, ProLogis announced its initiative to require all of our future development in the United States to comply with the U.S.Green Building Council’s standards for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Enviro nmental Design). All new buildings from that time forward are routinely registered for LEED certification.

In addition to LEED, ProLogis is committed to developing any new properties in the U.K. to achieve at least a “Very Good” rating in accordance with the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM). In Japan, many of our facilities comply with the Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environmental Efficiency (CASBEE). In countries where no green building rating system exists, we utilize a global standards checklist based on these three leading regional rating systems.

For a basic introduction to the LEED rating system and how it applies to distribution centers, you may view or download the flyer “What is LEED?” at the right. For project profiles of distribution centers where these features are incorporated, select “Certified Facilities” on the left.
